I've been offered a job!

As any and all who have read my LJ over the last several months will recognize, I have not been happy at my job for quite some time. I've been interviewing at several places lately. I had a very good prospect of a job at the beach, but things have lingered and while they're more than willing to offer me a job in their Tampa office, they are a bit more hesitant to offer one in Destin since the work in that office is a bit outside my field of experience (though not of interest).

So, while on hold on that one, I've been interviewing other places. I interviewed at a local firm yesterday and they just offered me the job tonight. The salary isn't quite as high as I had wished, but it's still a very nice raise over what I have now. And they have a nice work schedule of giving every other Friday off.

Anyway, it's looking like I'll be turning in my resignation tomorrow (and the ONLY regret that I have is that I have several friends in the office. Screw the management. ) With my firm being the way they have been, it's quite likely that they won't want me to work out my notice (not that I would mind NOT working it. In fact, just tell me to go. I'd love it. Actually, the worse scenario is that I would have to work the resignation).

Anyway, while I'll contact the Destin firm in the morning, unless they counter offer I'm taking this job in B'ham and saying good riddance to the work hell I'm in now. (And now I have to figure out how to write a letter of resignation).

So, good news. I've escaped!

Thanks.

I had a very positive reaction to the firm when I interviewed there (something I didn't have to the firm I interviewed with last week) so I think it may be a nice personality fit. (And I also need to do something about the interview I had scheduled for next week with yet another firm).

Congratulations! And as for the letter of resignation, I say go with brief and professional: I value the experience and knowledge I've gained in my X years with the firm, but I've been presented with an exciting opportunity for further professional growth and have accepted. Therefore, my final day here at Firm X will be whatever.

And once again: Congratulations!

Yay -- no jinxes! Congratulations!

And echoing [livejournal.com profile] nutmeg3, my favorite resignation letter is even more short, sweet and to the point: "This is to notify you that I am resigning my position of ______ effective ______. I am leaving to pursue other opportunities. Thank you for allowing me to work for you. Sincerely, _______"

They don't need any more information than that, unless you choose to give it to them personally.

And again I say, good on you.

I'm kind of avoiding saying "my final day will be" because 90% of the time, my boss asks people to leave immediately. On some occasions people serve the 2 weeks but it's something to be way, way, WAY less than certain of. More often than not, you're gone immediately upon serving. So I'll do whatever they want. If he wants me to stay for 2 weeks I will, but I'm well aware that most of the time he requests that people leave immediately.

Well, I just figure it's usual to give an end date, and then if they want you to leave immediately, it's their decision but you've at least been polite.
