Think Anything but Pink
Aug. 22nd, 2004 10:09 pmWell, tomorrow I start my new job. Here's hoping that everything goes well.
In anticipation of this (or maybe just in a "I'm changing my life" way since I've actually been doing a fairly good job of changing my life having lost 40+ pounds --though still have the same amount to go-- and getting a new job) I've been doing a hell of a lot of shopping lately. Usually I'm ANYTHING but a shop-aholic. I can go years without clothes shopping. It's just that at the moment my fat clothes are too big and my thin clothes are too small (and that gives you an idea as to the size disparity).
Anyway, I went shopping, and I don't care how many people say that pink is the new black (or whatever), I simply cannot wear it. I actually found a pink sweater that was the right color for me. I cannot wear light pink. I'm light pink. It just fades me out. But I had found a nice, deep not quite but almost fuschia pink. It was a reasonably flattering color on me. But I simply can't wear it. Pink just FEELS wrong on me. So what do I do? I end up with some bright red with a slightly orangish undertone.
Why do I do that?
I remember doing the whole "color analysis" thing as a kid. I was sort of a summer veering a bit toward winter. And yet, my personality tends to vere between Winter and Spring. I mean, I'll wear coral, but I simply won't wear a blue undertone pink. I tend to think it's a personality thing. Sometimes you try on stuff and even if it fits your coloring or shape it just plain doesn't fit your personality. If you go through my closet, first off you find a hell of a lot of black. I wear a LOT of black. Other than black you find navy blue, sky blue, hunter green, acid and/or lime green, charcoal gray, red, and a little lavender, and that's it. That's all. I just don't wear other colors. I'm convinced it's a personality thing because I haven't checked the whole summer/winter/spring/fall thing in a while, but I'm relatively certain that those combos aren't all in the same season. I also have a deep aversion to poofy sleeves, ruffles or bows. Just can't do them. I think that's a size thing. Those kind of things look cute on someone petite, but if you're 5'10" it just doesn't feel right.
I did order some pants from Victoria's Secret that haven't come in yet. VS Pants
In terms of other excessive spending -- had a relatively expensive haircut for a change. It's not a lot shorter. It went from really long to just long. I also bumped up my hair color, but I really don't care for it. It's a bit too brassy (I accidentally got "lighest natural blonde" instead of "natural blonde" so in a about two weeks I'll streak in some "natural blonde" and drab out the blonde just a little.
And finally -- whee! I got TiVo! Well, not TiVo {tm}, but the Charter DVR. Which is essentially TiVo without buying the machine but paying my cable company an extra $10 a months for what is essentially TiVo. Neat and fun. It's my gift to myself (although that should probably be the clothes, huh?)
So, now, here's hoping that all goes well on the new job tomorrow. It's a longer commute than I'm used to so I'll have to get up earlier and see how long it takes to get there when given rush hour traffic (it only takes 10 minutes in non-rush hour, but never underestimate the hell of rush hour trafic on 280. So I'm figuring that 10 minute drive will be around 45 minutes).
And despite all the shopping... I have no idea what I'm going to wear.
