Is that even a word? It's gotten kind of funny hearing it over and over and over again on the news. "We've been hunkered down." "You need to hunker down." "Stay hunkered down." Say hunker ten times and see if it doesn't sound weird.

Still, so far so good. It's rainy and occasionally gusty but nothing particularly bad at this point.

Is this "hunker" one of those typically Southern words or do people in other regions say this? I once amused my Massachusettes relatives to no end by saying "fixing to."

Is it expected to get any worse there?

Yeah, it got a lot worse. Most of the city has had the power knocked out. Many trees are down, but no really significant damage if you haven't been hit by a tree.

I'm in the dark right now with most of the city... just bored enough to pull out the laptop and use up the battery.
