LOST thoughts

Thought last night's ep was excellent. Heck, loved last week's too. Oh hell, they should just make it the Sayid, Locke, Sawyer and Mr. Eko show and we'd all be better off (Jin, however, can show up shirtless whenever he likes).

What I liked about both last week's ep and this week's episode was that there seemed to be things going on in the present as well which are interesting. That and, though the flashbacks are repeating things about the character we already know, Sayid and Sawyer's flashback's seemed to be more interesting and suspenseful. What's more they didn't seem to be as much repetition as Charlie's and Jack's. I think that's because in Jack's case they didn't want to make his past wrong too wrong so they chickened out and he didn't have an affair or actually do anything bad. Charlie's really added little as we already knew that he had become a drug addict so the Charlie ep in particular brought little to the table in the flashback. In Sawyer's we knew he was a conman, but in his flashback ep they had him chicken out on the con because of the boy. This time we saw how destructive Sawyer was because, despite the fact that he loved her, he still conned her. They amped up Sawyer's self-destructiveness, self loathing, and made him more villainous all in one ep. Then they had him piss off everyone on the island in a nicely constructed con that showed that though he drawls all the time, there's intelligence behind those eyes. There was definite character de-evolution going on (as, I think, almost all the characters are de-volving, but it was pronounced in last week's ep).

Much the same this week. First off Naveen rocks (and has 'nice shoulders to have'). We saw how he became a torturer. We saw how his anger and grief over Shannon was looking for someone to punish. We saw Locke take one more step in pissing off Jack by by-stepping him (which, really, after last week wouldn't Locke be more cautious.) I loved Locke's telling Jack "You wanted a war. This also happens with war." You have the mystery of whether this guy actually is an other (and I think he is). They even de-evolved Hurley a little by showing that he's hoarding food. And they further devolve Sawyer by having him crush a cute, defenseless wittle tree frog (which ARE loud as hell... but also adorably cute).

Back to Sayid. Liked his breakdown of accusations about the man burying the woman he loved and Sayid beginning to fall apart because the accusations become cries of pain about Shannon. And I liked Sayid's admission that he couldn't have become a torturer if it hadn't been in him all along. As I said on BAPS, the American's gave Sayid the opportunity to become a torturer, they didn't make him one. He could have said no. And the reason he did it was because he had seen the tapes of Tariq's crimes against humanity with the nerve gassing of the village. Much as Sayid's current torture was out of his own anger, frustration, and rage, so too was his torture of Tariq. And his claim at the end that he'd never torture again with the audience well aware that on his return to Saddam's regime, that would become his career, worked well at darkening Sayid's character. (That and his admission to feeling no guilt at the end of the episode).

Oh, and not to forget the clock hitting zero. Then with all the hydraulics. (Jack, you're such a dick. Considering all the things they've found in the hatch, shouldn't you reasonably fear SOME reprisal for not pressing the button? It might not be the end of the world, but it could easily be the end of YOU.) And then with the clock turning over to all those Eqyptian hieroglyphics. My theory? Whaddya wanna bet (this is pure speculation) that the symbols that popped up when the clock went to zero were Egyptian Hieroglyphs from the Book of The Dead?

1) Because if they are, it will start lots of speculations from the fans.

2) Because a section of the Book of the Dead has to do with weighing men's hearts to see whether they are good or bad -- and that seems very much within the theme of the show.

3) It continues to play the limbo element of the series (though I don't believe that LOST is literally limbo, but that's been one of the primary speculations all along and having them be symbols from the Book of the Dead would string that along.

Anyway, I thought it was a good eppie.

Project Runway

Ugh! Santino could parade shit across the stage and still not be eliminated. Seriously, it's ridiculous that we NEVER get the satisfaction of seeing his arrogant ass auffed. No fair, Project Runway! No fair! Also hilarious that it was Kara who was auffed (for what appeard to be a reasonable dress to me... albeit Iman was right and it was too short. Oh and Heidi Klum's haircut looked great). Anyway, Kara was auffed just after Women's Wear Daily picked her collection to be the best of the four presented at Fashion Week. That's got to pinch considering how the producers must have bent over backward to keep Santino in this.

Anyway, Santino's dress was lovely until he started ruining it with seqins. K.I.S.S., you ass.

Daniel's was just a bit too K.I.S.S., but it at least was pretty.

Chloe's dress certainly showed her 1930s inspiration (even if the collection she ended up doing looks very retro 80s.) The primary problems with her dress was the construction (and the seam which cut at the wrong places beneath the butt). Pretty though underwhelming outfit.

Looking forward to next week's Reunion show. He's hoping that Santino gets bitched at and accused of being kept on because of the drama queen factor. He deserves the accusations.
