Thought the premiere was good... then again, I always thought that the premise packed enough drama for a good premiere. The question will be whether they can sustain the story without becoming silly. I hope they do. I desperately need a "new show."

Also: Nip/Tuck...

Was last night's ep recitivism or what? Matt still ends up in the icky relationship with the child molester. Sean is gravitating to Julia. Christian is boinking Sean's girlfriend (who claims to "love" Sean more.) So everyone went back to their old tricks. Though I have to say, I rather liked the Christian/Natasha scene.

I thought he was quite honest and that he really DID break up with Natasha because she's "too good" for him... but he wasn't doing so in any self sacrificing, noble way. He's serious. She's "too good" for him.

While watching BtVS I'd always be offended by people who said they didn't want Spike redeemed, but the truth is, I don't want Cristian redeemed! For one thing, I don't think he needs to be. He's an asshole. He's supposed to be an asshole. He's supposed to fuck any good looking woman who walks into the room and do so without remorse. Cristian ISN'T Spike... who had that romantic/noble streak in him. I like Cristian as an asshole... but a HUMAN asshole. He isn't uniformly bad. He's not evil. He does have his moments of compassion (those are fine), but he's supposed to remain a fucking asshole/man-ho. That's who he is. :) So while Natasha was nice... he was right to break up with her. She was "too good" for him. (Though, he's stupid if he thinks he can hook back up with Kimber and her not eventually try to cut off his dick).

I wish I could watch "Nip/Tuck." The commercials look really cool, and when you and other people talk about it, it sounds complex and fascinating, with really good characters. But I just can't take the medical stuff. It grosses me out as nothing else can, and I have to turn away.

Well, it's over the top. Nip/Tuck always but always goes for shock value whether it's in shockingly graphic sex or shockingly graphic gore.

That said, I've become fascinated by the (okay, excessive) writing, because the surgeries on the show are really just metaphors for what's going on in the relationships. The "patients" are really just reflections of what's going on in the main character's fucked up psyches. (i.e. in the episode where Christian and Sean are at odds and talking about breaking up their practice, arguing about who "carries" who in their practice, they're called in to assist on the separation of conjoined twins. When the twins are separated, they die. C/S then have three way sex with a hooker... and get back together (okay, this show HAS to have sex! A lot. >:) Or in last night's ep the patient was an abused woman who said that she was strong enough to finally end things with her abusive husband and wanted a fresh start, and plastic surgery to repair the damage done to her face from abuse... only for the patient to immediately go back to her abusive husband (just as all the main characters went back to their self destructive vices in the episode).

In fact, Christian's entire relationship with Natasha was something of a metaphor. Natasha was blind and saw beauty, not in looks, but in the person. By rejecting Natasha, he was rejecting a part of himself (inner, soulful beauty) in favor embracing Kimber (shallow, pretty, sextoy... i.e. his shallow existence.) And Kimber also had plastic surgery last night... to extend her love lines. She kept saying that the physical could effect the inner psyche (which was what Julia's "Zennis" coach was telling her as well). In fact I suspect (ever since Wendy said it) that the whole Famke Jannsen incest plot is really about Julia and her relationships with Sean, Christian, and Matt.

But, yeah, the show is really gory. Can't lie about that. It thrives on being shockingly excessive and graphic.

See, everything you say makes it sound really interesting except this:

<< But, yeah, the show is really gory. Can't lie about that. It thrives on being shockingly excessive and graphic. >>

Gore in general doesn't bother me. Horror movies are fine, no matter how gross. Even the CSI shows, which are realistic-ish but deal with dead bodies, don't bother me. But medical gore specifically, operations and stuff, that bothers me big time.
