A totally "duh!" realization when writing fanfic

I had the completely obvious (downright redundant) realization last night when writing fanfic. I always have trouble finding Buffy's "voice." Her voice never seems as clear as Spike's, Dru's, Dawn's, Giles's or even Xander's. Last night, because I was tired, I realized (what I've always known but somehow it became even more obvious) that Buffy is intellectually LAZY. Whenever in doubt -- go for lazy. She doesn't want to deal with ramifications of actions. It's too difficult. She takes the easy way out and avoids. If coming up with the right word means searching her memory for the correct word -- too much trouble. Just go childish and/or add a 'y.'

Yeah, I know everyone knew that Buffy was intellectually lazy, but it was my statement of the obvious for the day.

I always thought the Season 3 storyline of suddenly Buffy's a serious student and "OMG can go to college anywhere!" was so out of left field. You can't make up for twelve years of poor scholarship with a semester of good grades.

Yeah, I think the idea is to show her as a "doer" - a "yeah, whatever, just point me at it and I'll kill it" girl - and not some book nerd. That's what Willow and Giles are for.
