Boring Stuff

Weekend! Yay.
I'm tired.
* I spent most of last weekend pruning roses and crepe myrtles. By now most of my scratches have healed (Damn roses, why are you pretty enough to make me endure this?)
* Am watching History Channel (2)'s history of the Russian Revolution. It's quite the interesting contrast with Smithsonian Channel's history of the Russian Revolution. The H2 one reminds me of a realization I had when watching the Smithsonian Channel's summary, namely that in most versions we're shown in the US, the only actual people who are humanized are the Czar and the Czar's family, which tends to slant history (biasing empathy in favor of the aristocrats, who are the only ones treated as individuals and multi-layered people, because the middle and lower classes are just shown as an amorphous, nameless angry mob) The Smithsonian Channel's documentary is far better because it was the first time I ever saw one of these things they actually bothered to personalize any of the revolutionaries (and not solely focus on Lenin). The Smithsonian tended to focus on the Navy and the guards who turned on the Czar and later still turned on the Communists. But, at least the reasons for the revolution were portrayed through comprehensible regular people rather than only humanizing a flawed, out of touch Czar... and the scary boogeymen of Rasputin and Lenin.
* Have continued to watch Scandal. It's fun for the WTF, show?? WTF???!!!
* *sigh* My work computer died last week. Well, not died, but it would not connect to any of the plotters or printers. At first I thought it was a virus (and was blaming TWOP which was hacked by malware a couple of weeks ago). But after running anti-virus software, it looked clean... but still none of the network stuff worked. Then they wiped the whole computer clean, reloading Windows... and still none of the network stuff worked (despite the network card saying that it worked). Since two other computers about the age of mine have died that way, it was decided that I simply need a new computer, which, great, but since then I've been playing musical chairs finding time on open computers and no computer of my own. Considering how customized everyone makes their autocad interface, this has been a real handicap. Hopefully my new computer will come in soon.
* Ha! Despite all the skepticism to my pineapple/cheddar/ritz cracker thingie, I made it again last night and, yep -- STILL GOOD! I reduced the sugar in the recipe to less than a tablespoon (and I suspect that no sugar at all is needed). I added a tough of ginger. And, next time I think I'll add a can of crushed pineapple to the reserved juice because it's the "goo" that's so good. Other than that, worked like a charm (and it really isn't such a weird flavor profile if anyone likes Hawaiian Pizza).

Date: 2013-02-24 02:29 pm (UTC)Another scene in the trailer was one I was afraid had been cut and it was such a perfect introduction for a new character that I was sad. Glad it was included.
Thought Mance yelling about setting a fire the North would see was great.

Date: 2013-02-26 05:20 pm (UTC)And I was just over on Winteriscoming.net and they're speculating that the hooded figure in the trailer is Theon and OMG, OMG, OMG, I didn't think of that. It wasn't in Book 3, but yeah, when we learn about it later it was contemporanious with Book 3 and... I am totally going to have to change channels during that.
