I could almost believe the crack cocaine thing, if it were the city police instead of the CIA. *snort*

Yes, and they're fundamentalist Christians who believe that all that has to take place in order for Christ to come back. God, I'm so thankful that particular teaching wasn't something I was subjected to in my upbringing. Our particular brand of conservative evangelical (but not quite fundamentalist) Christianity was firmly amillenial. THANK GOD.

Raleigh, N.C. — A bill filed by Republican lawmakers would allow North Carolina to declare an official religion, in violation of the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Bill of Rights, and seeks to nullify any federal ruling against Christian prayer by public bodies statewide...

And these people are not necessarily stupid or ignorant. I have well-educated, seemingly normal friends who truly believe some of this. And there's no argument that will sway them. People believe what they WANT to believe. They don't bother with facts.

Word. My college graduate sister totally buys the Autism/ vaccine thing. Of course, it's because she has an autistic child and wants simple answers, but still.

I know, it makes you nuts.

And that reminds of me of the last Bill Maher show :

4% believe that shape-shifting reptiles have taken human form to minipulate & control our world!!!

And I'm truly ashamed to admit that Petzi Sis is one of them.

I think my favourite thing about David Icke's shape-shifting lizard idea is that the lizards are said to include the British royal family, the Bush family, the Rothschild family, and... Kris Kristofferson. The man thinks "Me and Bobbie McGee" was written by a lizard.

I almost felt snide and cynical enough to point out that an alarming percentage of Americans also believe in an all-powerful man in a white beard who will take them to his golden streets if they cast out "teh gay."

These terrify me but sadly no longer surprise me...

I've seen lots of jokes and snarky comments about these results. The first thought I had when looking through them was, "How many of those people who said they believe Paul McCartney died and was replaced actually know who the Beatles were?"

But maybe I've had too many moments the last year or so of fans I hang out with not knowing about almost anything that happened more than ten years ago.
