Okay, I really don't know how to react to this one... but not because the plot was confusing or anything.

I think the primary problem is that I don't give a damn about Kate or her baggage.  And I really don't care for the "Bad girl with a heart of gold" [tm] thing they've got going.  It's not that "Girl does heinous thing and feels bad about it" doesn't work for me (For instance, I adore "The Way We Weren't" on Farscape where Aeryn confesses to having gotten an old lover executed so that she could get a promotion).  But Kate... eh.  Maybe if a different actress played her.  Maybe if she was more Eliza Dushku "Faith" or Claudia Black "Aeryn" it would work more.  As it is, I just am so over "Girl does bad things but we forgive because she cries and looks sweet and innocent."

That said, loved Sayid's utter disbelief of Jack and Locke's stupidity at opening the hatch.  You go, Sayid.  You're so right.

Walt was freaky scary telling Michael that they HAD to get on the boat.

Sawyer still has more chemistry with Kate than Jack. (And curious that they felt the need to insert the Sawyer/Kate scene into it.  They have developed a more believable relationship with Kate/Sawyer than Jack.  That said, Sawyer -- RUN! )

I predicted (fairly close) from the beginning of the ep what was going on. I said straight off the bat that the culprit was either Kate poisoning Michael to get on the raft, or Sun making Jin sick to keep him from going.  Looks like I was right on both counts (and I did like the little twist at the end revealing Kate's machinations.  Turns out, Sawyer was right all along and doesn't know it).

And I loved Hurly dropping info then bitching about no one telling anyone anything on the island.  You know Locke and Jack are really quite similar... except Locke is more interesting by far.

The only thing I have to say on the episode is, Kate is f***ing boring! That was a waste of an hour. I kept wondering, why is this important? We already knew Kate was coniving and manipulative. We have a bit more history on her toy plane (which btw she left in the back of the car when she ran away...huh?) This was important, how?

I have come to the decision EL/Kate has one expression for all circumstances...boring. If there ever was a character where everyone is blinded by their...um...attributes it's EL because it can't be her acting.

I find it hard to care about the raft plot because it's so incredibly stupid. Michael JUST NOW thought about checking out the trade winds? Just now considered he didn't have anyone going long who knows how to sail? Just now started thinking baout what kind of food to take? My God, he deserves to die of exposure and dehydration in the middle of the Pacific. Which is the most likely outcome.

But of course that won't happen; they'll just end up back on the island.

The hatch, on the other hand, is interesting. Assuming it's not some creepy woo-woo thing, my best guess is that it's some abandoned government biological warfare project, which would account for the mysterious something that made Danielle's group sick. Creepy Walt doesn't like it, and Sayid, who's the most sensible person on the island, has qualms. Boone's already dies for it. Unfortunately Locke's got way too much emotionally invested in thinking that the island has chosen him to open it to give up.

Die, Kate, die! Seriously, she's sooooo frelling boring. I liked everything else, though, mostly because I'm following my philosophy of la la la, how fun, let's not think too hard about any of it, la la la.
