Hope this is true.    It's a book detour that could be easily explained if they wanted to and I've been hoping would happen because it would a) make sense  b) I'd simply like it.

Anyway, from Winteriscoming.net. a rumor:

A Familiar Face Returning to Game of Thrones?

It appears the Faceless Man known to viewers as Jaqen H’ghar may be seen again.

According to the German agency of Tom Wlaschiha, the actor is shooting a 2014 episode of the crime solving series Tatort entitled, “Borowski und die armen Kinder von Gaarden, ” and after that, in August, he’ll begin filming on Game of Thrones. The agency notes that Tom is in the main cast. Given that the website updates their News sections regularly with 2014 projects, and that Wlaschiha has appeared in several notable productions since filming GoT in 2011 (with his appearance airing in 2012), it does look like Arya’s mentor is returning to the show next year.

Wlaschiha has kept busy since his time on Game of Thrones, costarring as Sebastian Berger in Crossing Lines. He played Prince Albert in the 2014 biopic Mr. Turner and will be appearing as Philip Von Hapsburg in series 3 of Canal+’s Borgia.

In the A Song of Ice and Fire series, the face of Jaqen has not been seen since A Clash of Kings, though the Faceless Man (in different form) is still tending to business in Westeros.

The actor’s return has not been officially confirmed by HBO.

Me: I hope this is true. (I've always wanted the show to do this.  Why couldn't "A Man" be "A Kindly Man"?  Better for TV that way anyway.)

I hope it's true as well. Really interesting character.

From the books it would be amazingly simple to do (since he's a character who can change his face. Both "A Man" (Jaqen) and "A Kindly Man" (?) can change faces as required. So, they could easily either be the same character or, at the least, employ the same face.)

Although there are those who argue that Jaqen already is the book in a different guise in a storyline that I honestly got so bored/mystified by its inclusion that I skimmed/flipped to another chapter.

But, even if those people were right about his inclusion in a different storyline, there's little reason he couldn't do both parts (more economical if he does).

I always hoped that rather than introduce a new character to play (the face?) of "A Kindly Man" that the show would re-use the face we recognize. When "A Kindly Man" didn't appear on the same casting call as "The Waif" (who is also in Arya's storyline), I grew more hopeful that we'd see a familiar face. ::fingers crossed::

It does make sense. I liked that character a lot and was so disappointed when he changed his face. But I suppose he can do that at will?

It's rather mystical. I'm not sure how often they can re-use a face or whatever. The show may pin it down a bit more (because a visual medium is different from a written one) It's all so shrouded in mystery, and with it being a book, it's often defined by ones own imagination in the way you picture it. It's hard to say exactly (at least not without spoiling a fantastically scary WTF?! OMG! scene that's bound to happen eventually).

They've been laying this into Arya's storyline already, though. There have been easter eggs to foreshadow her Braavosi storyline.

This seems like as good a time to any to ask. Who are the Faceless Men, exactly? Assassins?

And I guess Jaqen is only called Jaqen when he wears that particular face?

I must admit, I was disappointed when I read that he hadn't appeared in fifth book, because I just assumed Arya would be seeing him again. But if his actor is scheduled to be back, this is one change I can get behind.

The answer is coming with Arya's stint in Braavos.

Assassins?
It's complicated. I tend to think of them almost as Samurai+ninja.

And I guess Jaqen is only called Jaqen when he wears that particular face?

'Jaqen' would be an assumed identity regardless. There's a reason why he only refers to himself as "A Man."

There's a lot of debate over on Winteriscoming that he is the guy who kills _______ and _______. But as he can change faces, it's never said that its him, so like a lot of things, it's speculation.

"Faceless Men" can assume many guises/faces so... who knows.

Would be a great idea to have him return as her teacher.I always had the feeling the character should return and GRRM doesn't seem to come forth.

I know.

And on TV, it just makes sense. GRRM has no problem populating his world with an endless supply of newbies (even when it becomes a matter of the reader going "who are these people and why should I care?")

TV needs some recognizable faces, especially since there are already going to be so many new faces in Dorne. Though not confirmed, I always thought it would make sense if "A Kindly Man" was simply another face of "Jaqen". I mean... why not?

I always assumed the Faceless Man WAS Jaquen, especially since we knew going into Braavos that he could change his face. It would make sense he wouldn't want to show Arya his Jaquen-face if she's in training. I also thought he was the assassin guy who kept showing up randomly. He could easily be both, the Faceless Man disappears in and out of Arya's story. I'm SO GLAD they're bringing Tom Wlaschiha back!

That's what I always thought as well.

Now, if they REALLY want to fan-service, they could reveal one of the faces to be Syrio Forel (but that might be TOO coincidental).

I really hope it's true (and it would make sense from a TV production perspective.)

Would be excellent if it's true! The Man had such an excellent rapport with Arya! And now with the Hound gone, she would have someone to play against.

I like how the show makes me excited about the most boring elements of the book.
Same for Dorne - I can't believe I'm eagerly waiting for Dorne story.

But even the show couldn't get me interested in the IronBorn, sorry. :)

Lord, me either. The only ones I can even tolerate reading are Asha and Theon. The rest should drown and be gone forever.
