Amazon is offering a free trial of "Kindle Unlimited" with access to both free kindle books and free audible books.

SEATTLE (AP) - Amazon is rolling out a new subscription service for Kindle devices that will allow users unlimited access to thousands of books and audiobooks for $9.99 a month.
The company said Friday that the Kindle Unlimited service will give users the ability to read as much as they want from more than 600,000 Kindle books such as "The Hunger Games" and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." They can also listen as much as they want to thousands of Audible audiobooks, including "Water for Elephants."
Subscribers will get a free three-month Audible membership.
A Kindle Unlimited logo will be attached to eligible titles. The subscription service is available beginning Friday and is accessible via Kindle devices or with Amazon's free Kindle reading apps. A free 30-day trial can be accessed at www.amazon.com/ku-freetrial.

Date: 2014-07-19 03:38 pm (UTC)If the lending library could included the back catalogue of known authors like for example Stephen King (obviously not his latest books, but the older stuff) then I would be all over it, but as it is I've never heard of any of them! Well except for the Harry Potter books that they always make sure to mention. Otherwise it's mostly just trashy romance, thrillers, and self-help books

Date: 2014-07-21 03:32 pm (UTC)I took the free offer of Amazon Prime for a month last month and discovered that there aren't enough borrow-able books to bother. Unlimited seems to have more books (but tend to be older books or beginnings of serials.)
