You know, over the years I've criticized Buffy a little. (I hear the laughing! >;). I've pointed to a few character flaws. I've said that I thought she had issues. Heck, let's admit it, I've been hard on the girl sometimes. That said, I considered a few things to be true (and to be essential Buffy).

She's always been a good and dutiful soldier. She wouldn't gloss over/emotionally dismiss a little thing like causing an apocalypse.
She has a tendency to be angst-ridden. The girl dwells. She would be conflicted if her lovelife brought on death, mayhem and destruction. Heck, she might even dwell upon it.
She cares what her friends think. To the point that she broods about it sometimes...even when she shouldn't.
She has a moral compass. She can be confused sometimes, but she's pretty insistent on what's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. She can at times even be a bit binary about it.

So how and why did Season 8 eradicate the positive qualities that even people who criticize Buffy grant her?
