If the popularity of HBO’s latest Game of Thrones video is any indication, the show’s second season might debut bigger than ever.

The first actual Thrones season 2 trailer, titled “Shadows” (below), shattered the network’s online viewing records since it was released Sunday night. The video has been streamed 3.5 million times on YouTube, a record for any piece of online HBO promotional content in such a brief period of time, according to a network spokesperson.

The social media surge sets the stage for a potential audience increase for the show’s April 1 premiere. The show’s ratings rose nearly every episode in its first season, with its finale hitting a season-high 3.9 million viewers. Combined with plenty of OnDemand and repeat viewing since then, and the upcoming DVD release, a larger audience tuning in for the next installments seems very possible. And with HBO renewing freshman drama Luck for a second season after clocking a relatively modest 2.3 million viewers across four telecasts, Thrones fans might get some good news in the coming months.

Looking at the trailer again, I'm somewhat stunned by just how hot Robb looks.  Shows how casting can change things.  I never thought of either Ser Jorrah or Robb as being 'hot' in the books.

But on screen?

Very definitely hot.
