You know, I enjoy the heck out of the show, but it's become rather smarmy. I mean, it's always been somewhat smarmy, but I think the smarm to quality ratio has long since tipped toward smarm. Anyway, comments

* When is Christian just going to snap in a permanent way? You can only teeter on the edge for so many years... can't you? (I'm having a problem this years as seeing Christian as sexy. I mean, the naked tush is very pretty, but at some point he's more pathetic than sexy. And I'm beginning to have trouble seeing the sexy.

Okay, I've only watched part of last season and this season, so take my comments for what they are worth, which is not much.

Does Christian have some sort of desperate, unacknowledged, secret lurve for Sean? Cause that's the only thing that sort of explains it all for me.

That definitely seems where they're going this year... not that the implication is new, just that it's far, far more blatant this season.

There have always been nods to it what with the time Sean and Cristian had a three-way with the hooker that time. The producers said that it was Sean and Cristian's way of sleeping with each other without actually having sex with each other.

And there was the very cute scene last year when they were mistaken for a loving couple about to be married and they played along with it.

Still, the Sean/Christian relationship also has some sibling qualities as Christian has no family to speak of (his mother was raped by his father, and she put him up for adoption. Christian was also sexually abused by a guy when he was a kid. Sean was Christian's college roomate and Sean then became 'family' to Christian. There's always been a strange three-some aspect with Sean/Julia/Christian what with Julia having been married to Sean but in love with Christian. Julia marrying Sean but having sex with Christian and conceiving Matt. Then you add in Kimber where Christian dumped Kimber, then Sean started sleeping with her, that then made Christian want her back.

Basically, the Sean/Cristian relationship is extremely fucked up. I have no doubt that Cristian loves Sean (and that Sean loves Cristian). I don't know whether Cristian will eventually swing that way... but honestly, it wouldn't be out of character for the characters if they did end of with full blown slash by the end of the season. On this show, that's a distinct possibility. There's always been a homoerotic subtext between them and it's become increasingly more and more text and less and less sub.

Hm. Thanks. I didn't know all the backstory. I did know the S/J/C story and the Kimber story, but not how S/C met, etc. I also didn't know about the threeway and the comments.

I felt like they were definitely pushing things this season, especially with Sean going all 'you're selling our child' when Christian suggested selling the practice. Plus, Christian keeps giving Sean these weird, intense looks.
