No more sports forums. (There are crazy people there).
No more sports radio. (And damn them for turning my favorite Alternative Rock station into an all-sports radio station. I now have to find a new radio station for my alarm clock).
I know wanky and I know angsty... and I'm returning to fictional fandoms where I'm used to the insanity (and where everyone admits up front that it's fictional...unlike sports writers who will, apparently, print anything even if it only bears the most cursory resemblance to reality.)
I only have so much emotional energy to expend on sport. Usually that's a few hours on Saturday during the fall. This 2+ weeks of speculative hell and the media flinging insults requires more energy than I'm willing to expend on entertainment.
Wake me when we have a coach. And I mean when we REALLY have a coach. I like my nutty fandoms based on fiction.

We were pwned. That simple. He's a great offensive coach, and he executed a great offensive move with West Virginia getting them to give him the raise and the facilities that they said they weren't going to give him last week. If you're on his side of the equation, he's brilliant. This kind of multi-level strategy is what makes him a damn good offensive strategist.
However, if you're on Bama's end of the deal, you feel humiliated and his giving press conferences that amount to the traditional dumping speach of "It's not you, it's me" never works with the dumpee. It feels like rubbing salt in open wounds.
He didn't violate any rules, and from his end, it was quite brilliantly done to get what he felt like was his due from WV. But we're left feeling mocked and used while (in his own words) we did everything above in honorable and sincere fashion.
It doesn't feel good.

Date: 2006-12-09 04:38 am (UTC)From our end, it doesn't feel good. We were played in a game of chicken between Rodriguez and WV, then given a "It's not you, it's me" dumping speech. We feel used. It's not a good feeling.
From his end of the equation, there's nothing but positives. From a strategic point of view, it was an impressive chess move. From WV's viewpoint, it's all's well that ends well. But from Bama's...after two weeks of being mocked by every commentator on ESPN, we're left the butt of more jokes and further humiliated. There's no other way to feel about that but embarrassed and unhappy.
