Tonight I found myself on a message board explaining how "Days of Our Lives" is funded. In the midst of the post, I began cringing as I realized that I know way, way too much about this. Clearly, I've kept up with soap gossip for too many years. *headesk*

Oh, and merely because I haven't seen it mentioned on my f-list, NBC finally put that godawful crap "Passions" out of business. (Spike would be saddened). The show has been officially cancelled. Also causing kerfuffling was the line in NBC's announcement about Passions' demise that made it clear that NBC intends to cancel "Days of Our Lives" in 2009 when its contract comes up for renewal. This led to deluded soap splooge with fans convincing themselves that "Days" would be picked up by another network. With Days financial situation, I seriously don't see that happening unless some network actually doesn't care about losing money. . .and this was the point where I cringed and realized that I know too much about the backstage stuff at Days.)

It was in yesterday's USA Today and I think it's in the TVGuide soap blog. I first saw it posted on TWOP (http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=165519&view=findpost&p=6858955)

I really wasn't all that surprised. Days has been Dead Soap Walking since last March. It was touch and go whether they would pick up Days option for just the back half of their current contract. There were strong rumors that NBC was considering dumping it then (last March), but that they didn't want to dump both shows at approximately the same time. Corday pulled the whole "Hire Sheffer" thing to convince them to give the show just one more try, and NBC picked up the last half of Days current contract... and a yet FURTHER reduction of price (and they had already slashed it to the bone in the 2002 re-negotiation.) Basically, the last TWO times the contract has come up for renewal, in addition to last spring when Days' option to complete their current contract was up for renewal, NBC has been waffling about cancellation. Now, Zucker has been fairly clear that NBC plans to be out of the soap business by 2009.)

Gaaah! I followed that link and ended up reading about five pages of stuff. Your post was good, though. It actually explained stuff. (What a concept.)

although the acting is horrible on DAYS, I actually am enjoying the storylines. They are actually allowing couples to be together.. (I am not use to this)

To be honest? I hope they do cancel Days. I hope HS writes a wonderful wrap-up that pays homage to the families and the history. Two years is plenty of time to plot this out.

I would rather see it go under, than go to ABC. ABC soaps are completely unwatchable. And I just read they fired Cady Mclaine. Great. They brought her back simply to ruin the character, it seems. And to use her to destroy Tad, as well.

The age of soap is over. I think if I want a "story" to watch, I had better brush up on my Y&R history. It's likely to be the last one standing.

I watched daytime soaps back in the day, and it's sad to hear about another legend falling. The era really IS over, isn't it...

It's always a little sad when the meta becomes more interesting than the actual story.

On the "do you scare yourself" portion of the question? OH, yeah.
My friends know I watched BtVS and are always updating me on SMG and talking about how much they love her, and here I am trying to be nice and thankful for the info while trying to explain the delicate politics of Buffy hatin'. :D

Fangirling is a difficult business.
