People with ongoing (IMO irrational) JM hatred annoy me. Jeez, people can squee about an actor if they want to and...

1) It doesn't make them batshit fangirls
2) It doesn't actually harm anyone else.

He didn't kill your puppies so what's with the melodramatic eyerolls of hatred? His getting a guest spot ruins someone's day? Think that might be a tad overly dramatic? Guess the poor actor should stop trying to find work, even a guest spot, because he might annoy someone. Or am I to really buy that he might sully Torchwood's artistic virtue. I mean, Capt. Jack is worth some squee but, dude, it's a show with cheesy pterodactyls and femmebots. Rusty himself admitted that Season 1 wasn't exactly stellar. How about a little perspective?

(Also, FYI, he can't rid himself of his cheekbones, so he isn't trying to personally offend anyone by having them and he's not shoving them in anyone's face.)

If I sound particular annoyed, let me admit that I haven't been feeling well. I have a pinched nerve in my back, so I'm grouchy this evening in general. This just added to a pre-existing state of irk.

From what I've read around, JM has a guest spot Torchwood next season. (Torchwood is a Brit spin-off of "Doctor Who".)

You need to hang out on my FL - it's been nothing but squee. I don't consider myself a fangirl, but I'm very happy he's got a job. And him and John Barrowman in the same show? Man, that's a lot of pretty. :-)

I squeed when Capt. Jack appeared on Who (and I'm currently pissed with the Doctor for the way he's treating Jack. Heh).

Seriously, it's sort of like that old commercial of "you got chocolate in my peanut butter." Two great tastes... together!

Oh ignore the negative ninnies.

just listen to the tsunami of squeeeee ringing across the fandom

The Torchwood fans are pretty darned excited too :)

Wow, I just read some of the incredibly mean-spirited reactions and all I can say is, why the hell do they care so much? All they have to do is 1) skip the episode and 2) skip the wank. Easy.

I think his participation can't hurt the show, and it will probably make it more interesting. I'll watch it (and will also ignore the wank).

I know what you mean.....

And perhaps he should put a paperbag over his head, so that the poor souls won't have to see his disgusting cheekbones he keeps thrusting into people's faces.

Naturally, he should have those cheekbones removed so as not to offend people with their prominence. He does it on purpose, y'know.

all I've seen is squee; I'm not necessarily a huge fan (it's more Spike, rather than JM for me), but man, that's a lot of pretty in one place, and if I ever see Torchwood, I'll make a point of watching that one.

It's just the overreaction of "Oh no, he got a job. That's so... unfair"? I don't know. It just seems absurd to me to have any viscerally negative reaction because someone got a job that lasts for all of one episode. I really think the naysayers can survive one measly epsiode. If they can't, I'm hard pressed to pity the poor fragile flowers.

If TV was expunged of actors we didn't like or didn't respect, I daresay that most shows would be incapable of casting anyone.

Huh?

All I've seen is a lot of squeeing (which I can't join in with as much as I'd like to because I think Torchwood is total pants).

Who's got their knickers in a twist about it? The Torchwood fans? Evilistas? Spike-haters? All of them?

I think it's getting better, but it tends to hurt less when I am flat on my back, or standing... and my job involves sitting most of the day.

Mom said she'd drop off some of her Naprosin tonight, so hopefully that will help because I'm tired of my back and hip hurting.

Sorry. That was badly phrased.

What I meant was, if the people in question don't want wank in their fandom, not starting it would be a good idea.

I hope your back is better soon.

But we taunt them by... liking stuff.

It's far less wanky to have a hate going or even snarky disdain. Far more cool (and socially acceptable) that way.

All I've seen is squee, but then, I don't follow Torchwood fandom because Captain Jack aside, Torchwood kinda sucks. Though I suppose there's a chance they'll learn from their mistakes and pull it together this season.

Yeah, that was my reaction to the "But JM sucks and can't act!" reactions.

I see. JM is going to sully Torchwoord's famed artistic virtues. In one episode.

Okay-doke. Perfectly rational reaction, then, chock-full of perspective and objectivity. Good to know.

Because liking JM is so 2003 apparently. The cool</> folks have moved on and he's apparently beneath them now.

Christ, it's not like he's taking over Torchwood.

So yeah, I don't get the wank. But put me in the woot, he's gainfully employed camp.

Hope you feel better.

I know. JM is just so out of fashion. Must mock him then to hide my shame at ever having fangirled... because fangirling the current shiny objects of fandom is so much more acceptable and won't be the tiniest bit embarrassing five years from now. I am current ergo my fannishness is cool rather than geeky.

Uh-huh. (Excuse me if I appear unconvinced).

And honestly, my reaction to the news wasn't "OMG! Best news evah!" but seeing people be bitchy and "I'm too cool for this shit" about it makes me want to have an extravagant squee just to annoy.

Er... yeah. I can be contrarian like that, sometimes. :)

But, it's so fashionable to hate JM now, don't you know? James should retire from the acting business, because he's old and wrinkly and also is so 2003. All the cool kids say so! *rolleyes*

Put me in the squeeing camp! I can't wait to see his episode.

And also get well soon.

Yes, how dare he want to work. And how dare he not shine artistically in the six lines he had before being CGI into metal on other shows.

Seems way out of proportion to me. It's not like he's suddenly going to pull Torchwood down from rarified art to plebian drivel.

And, jeez, it's one episode. It doesn't seem childish at all to begrudge a working actor for having single-shot guest appearance on a tv show. No, not at all.

...And hopefully the back will get better. I'm tired of the ache.

I've started my F-List but didn't see it yet (or overlooked it). Even if I won't see him in this episodes any time soon I'm glad he'll appear in a new series even if only for some episodes.
We haven't even seen Dr. Who here yet even I heard rumors will will some time ago. Nothing since then..

He's actually supposed to appear on Torchwood, which is actually a spin-off from Dr. Who (and, quite frankly, isn't as good as Dr. Who).

Even if it doesn't air, downloads are posted all over the place, so I'm sure it will be possible to see the ep after it airs even if it doesn't air in your country/part of your country.

It's not really worth looking for and, like most wank, it will evaporate in due time.

The ones I saw were ex-Spike fans playing to Anti-Spike fan crowds. Either way the whole "Ew! You got Spike in my Torchwood!" reaction was over the top considering it's just a guest spot. What? He can overtake an entire fandom/series in a single day?

Behold the power of Marsters.
