History Channel is having another Band of Brothers marathon. Somehow, though I usually dislike WWII movies, I've always loved Band of Brothers. Damn, the D-Day episode is terrifying.
It IS terrifying. Not only the beach landings, which the Americans got the worst of, but also the planeloads full of guys in parachutes, with the planes being shot at all the time and half of them falling out of the air.
I remember reading that Churchill/Eisenhower et al, had their speeches etc ready for D-Day's failure. Seems unnecessarily gloomy looking back, but they really didn't have full certainty that it would work. Thank Christ it did.
