shipperx: (Scully - I want to believe)

The Truth is... this is the truth?

Peet?  Ugh!   And, am I the only one who remembers that Mulder and Scully were on the run and kicked out of the FBI during that lamentable finale episode?

From EW.com:

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Chris Carter's upcoming X-Files movie has cast Amanda Peet and rapper Xzibit as fellow FBI agents to David Duchovny's Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Scully. The second film adaptation of the supernatural TV series will not be a sequel to the 1998 original movie but a stand-alone story, though the plot is being kept under tight wraps. The Reporter also states that Scottish comedian Billy Connolly (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events) has been given a role in the project as well.

I kind of wondered how Carter planned to reconcile his desire to tell a stand-alone, non-mythology story with a need to work off of the status quo as of the end of the series. It sounds like perhaps he simply won't.

I'm thinking he's going to go the Joss's Comic route where he thinks it's best to retcon away stuff that happened, forget some stuff happened, and not worry if it's a plausible organic outgrowth of where the series ended.

Which... might work for CC as most people choose to ignore a lot of the final season(s) anyway.

I've always wondered how in the hell he was going to work around the fact that a) Mulder and Scully were on the run. b) Mulder and Scully were no longer in the FBI c) By the time the movie comes out they'd only be 2 years shy of the end of the world as per a deadline given in the XF finale.

I was kinda curious how he was going to talk M&S way out of that corner, but, like you, I suspect that he's just going to ignore that it happened.

Hope he doesn't retcon. On the other hand, it is just a badly written summary of the new movie. I mean Amanda Peet was the hateful Phoebe in Season 2, I think. Mulder had been crazy about her pre-Xfiles, I think. So she at least she was a coworker of sorts back then, if I remember correctly. Or not. Maybe she worked for the London police.

Yuck, hope they don't have Mulder falling for her again and leaving Scully. I would have to chase CC and kill him.

*butts in*

Amanda Peet was never on XF. The actress who played Phoebe is called Amanda PAYS. :)

OH GOD. Could Amanda Peet get THE HELL AWAY from everything I like? She can't act! Gah.

This movie is gonna be whacked. And not just in terms of continuity. I couldn't care much about them following up the series [since I've never watched the last couple of seasons], but it's been over five years, DD and GA look *considerably* older, M&S supposedly have a 6 year old kid... and I won't be surprised it that isn't taken into account.

::sigh:: This makes me very glad I never got into X-Files...

Does this mean there shall be no Dogbreath in this film.

Though I like the actor, I hated the role.

Ooooh, can't wait. Amanda Peet will be okay, i think.

The casting is not inspiring confidence... and is starting to make the whole thing sound like one of the wacky episodes we sometimes got in later seasons (like "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas").

And it'll be really disappointing if they don't at least mention how they got where they are after the series finale.

I suspect that the movie is going to be set at some indeterminate point during the series, so they don't have to worry about the finale.

Or the other actors might not actually be "fellow" FBI agents, just FBI agents they encounter.

Bleh. I just don't care for Amanda Peete. Has she ever been in anything good?
