The things you read
Jun. 13th, 2008 11:48 amThe other day someone on TWOP created a Soap Dish: Soap Gossip forum and, as usually happens, Sarah Michelle Gellar's name and the infamous SMG/Susan Lucci feud popped up immediately with the 'SMG - bitch or victim?' debate raging as per always.
Move along. Nothing new to see here.
Except...
This morning someone posted a version of events regarding the SMG/Lucci feud that I had never read/heard before (For the record, I'm a Lucci defender. The woman has been in the business for over 30 years and -- sans SMG feud-- she's maintained a top notch backstage reputation for a hell of a long time with multiple co-stars {both those who currently work with her and those who have no reason to have continuing loyalty to her because they left the show years ago} claiming that she is a generous, gracious person. People may confuse Lucci with her soapy diva bitch character but the actress has a good personal reputation.) Anyway, someone posted this version of events that I've actually never heard before. {And I post this from curiosity, because anonymous message board posters are not to be taken without an entire box of salt).:
About the SMG/SL "feud" - what I heard is that SMG's mother manufactured the feud, telling the press how threatened SL was. Michael Logan bought it hook, line and sinker including saying in print that SL was threatened by someone younger, prettier and more talented. I thought "Prettier????"
Down the line I got to know an actress who had a brief friendship with SMG when they were teens and whose reps used to rep Sarah. The rep told the actress she suspected Sarah's mother manufactured the feud, and in manufacturing it, pissed off Susan Lucci thus creating a real feud. The reason SL wanted no more scenes with Geller was so everyone would know they were no longer sharing scenes, so Geller and her mother couldn't manufacture b.s. stories for the press anymore about how SL was so uptight that SMG was scene stealing with her beauty, talent and youth. The rep felt sad for SMG because her entire life was her career.
