Every now and then you read a spoiler and shake your head. Other times you read a spoiler and think "that's stupid." And then on rare occasions you read a spoiler and wonder WHAT IN THE FRAKKING HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?!!!!

OLTL is going to have Todd sleep with Marty.

Oh, hell no. That shit isn't funny... or watchable no matter how many filters they put on the lens or how very pretty the two actors are, or even that they have some sort of twisted, gothic "chemistry" going. This. is. unacceptable!

(To explain: over a decade ago OLTL ran a storyline where Todd was the leader of a vicious, premeditated, brutally graphic gang rape of Marty (and a subsequent second attempt, oh, and yeah, he murdered her boyfriend along the way as well). Now, they have a story where Marty has amnesia (actually brain damage from a traumatic head injury... and doesn't that make it better [/sarcasm]) and she has fallen for him (unknowing of their history), said yes when he asked her to marry him, and now there's the spoiler that the show is actually going to go there and have her sleep with him!

Oh HELL NO.

And ABC has the freaking nerve to advertise this as "the love scene you never thought you'd see." Damn right we never thought we'd see it -- it's sick and exploitative!

One of my favorite soap scenes ever was real-Todd and real-Marty's last scene together. I think they were sitting on the floor at the Carpenter house, maybe?

The terrible thing is on the only board I frequent (the TWOP OLTL board) we had all given the headwriter a benefit of a doubt. Sure, they were playing in dangerous territory but RC knows the show's history. He'd never actually go there.

Then to read that they are so going there. It's disheartening.

And the thing is, it doesn't matter if Marty thinks this is consensual, she does not know that this is the man who once terrorized her and did disgustingly HORRIFIC things to her. They can shoot this as romantic (and they are) but there's no way around it -- he's raping her a second time!

There are really so many levels of wrong here that there will be no coming back from it.

It is sad because Todd is a great character with just enough shades of "good" to make him a lovely shade of enjoyable grey.

I haven't watched OLTL in years, but I was an avid viewer when that original storyline was happening and I remember how adamant Roger Howarth was that they not "go there" with the characters. This sounds just - ewww. She has amnesia? Just...ewww.

Ironically I now watch ATWT, where Roger Howarth plays Paul.

Then again I thought Susan Haskell wouldn't allow things to "go there" so what do I know?

And, yeah, they "killed" off the recast Marty, so they brought SH's Marty back, having survived the car accident that killed her but having caused brain damage. Todd found her a few months ago and has paid for her convalescence... while lying through his teeth to her, fabricating a false history for her, and allowing her son to believe that she's dead.

Honestly, I don't know how they redeem Todd from this.

That reminds me of the old Luke and Laura storyline. I was never a fan of that pairing for the same reason - Luke raped Laura, and what makes it worse is that she ended up falling in love with him.

The soaps love the ol' "Fall in Love with Your Rapist" plotline. I don't think the writers have ever been victims of sexual assault.

The thing is... this is worse. It seems really stupid to make a qualitative judgement on these things. In real life there wouldn't be. But just judging on story and what was on screen, this is worse. The Luke and Laura situation had that fade to black. Yeah, we knew what was happening and it truly was rape, but the fade to black did allow them the ability to retcon.

Marty's rape was an hour long. It was premediated. It was repeated as not only did Todd rape her, but he egged on and convinced two other guys to do so as well. And, when he was brought up on trial, he attacked her again and threatened to rape her again.

Now, yeah, this storyline was well over a decade ago and they've changed Todd's since then. But what was shown in the original storyline was horrific and was graphically displayed on screen. And, with it having been so egregious a case, people really didn't believe the show would go there. I swear just seeing him touch her hand makes my skin crawl, the idea that they really are going to try to have a love scene?! The mind boggles. (And, yes, they think it's a 'love' scene as they are playing it as his being in love with her and her thinking she's in love with him. And knowing the kind of crap that the head of ABC daytime has done with other shows, I swear I think that the bastard doesn't even 'get' that this is another rape!

Marty is brain damaged! She doesn't know who Todd is. She doesn't know how he's lied to her. She doesn't know that he's keeping her from her own son and about to have her adopt her own grandchild (who, BTW, he's going to steal from his own freaking daughter!). And yet he's selling her this romantic fantasy that he's a good guy who loves her. She cannot give consent to a lie!

It's awful. I can't believe that they think they can sell this.

I remember Marty's rape by Todd and the other guys. You're right about it being pretty horrific.

I think this is why I can't watch soaps anymore. They went from being escapist fun to to high blood-pressure inducing idiocracies.

Please - by all means - let the show producers know your viewpoint. Sometimes they have their heads crammed so far up their rectum (otherwise known as cranium-rectum disease) that they forget they have long time, valuable viewers....

The show already knows that fans hate this. They've been bombarded with protests for months over the entire storyline (and that was before anyone thought that they'd really go all the way with this). They're actually doing this for the controversy and with the full intent of pissing people up to protest so as go garner attention.

It's probably better to just silently tune out... which is what I did several years ago when they did a story I found to be offensive.

That's so friggin' wrong; they have got to be going to kill Todd for REALS. There is just no other way.

Yeah, it's Original Recipe Marty. It's still the TSJ Todd though. And, truly, the general consensus on TWOP is that they have to kill Todd for this. Seriously, how is the audience supposed to forgive this shit? (Hell, this is happening on top of his already having thrown his pregnant daughter down a staircase a few months ago and his plotting to steal her baby now)

Seriously, someone just needs to kill him. They cannot 'redeem' him again when clearly he's now a recidivist rapist.

Roger Howarth quit this role because of the writers taking Todd and Marty places like this. He never thought Todd should be redeemed, or maybe he thought he was redeemable, but some of the things he did were unforgivable, like raping Marty. Soaps are so weird, I don't watch them too much any more. The weirdest of them all is DOOLs.
