Aw.  Lysacek looked so thrilled to win.  He skated a clean program, so good for him!  Takahashi<sp?>, other than the fall (on a quad!), was really talented.  But...

Poor Johnny Weir got SCREWED!  No, he probably shouldn't have been up for gold.  He was significantly behind from Short Program.  And he did fumble a spin, so, yeah, deductions were there.  Still, he didn't move up at all in the standings.  Given some of the other wipe-outs, that's just not right.  He deserved to end higher than 6th.  I'm just sayin'...

Yeah, I figured he'd get the bronze after his long program; I was really surprised that he was bumped down to sixth place. (I did, however, love the jaunty ring o' roses hat that he wore to the kiss & cry area. ;D )

Seriously, I'm on the verge of conspiracy theory that they kept him 6th so that he wouldn't have the opportunity to skate in the gala thingie at the end of the games. I can see his not earning a medal, but I find it a bit difficult to buy that he shouldn't have been higher than 6th.

One of the American ice dancer girls (the one I don't like, the one not skating with the curly haired blond boy) said, very astutely, that the judges are influenced by how they perceive you when you're off the ice, and boy, is she right. Weir did not do himself any favors with all the PETA drama and the trailing screaming fangirls and whatnot. Yeah, he's gotta be...him, but would it have killed him to pipe down for the duration of the games and maybe not encourage his fans to act out? Let's face it: Olympic judges are conservative, and I doubt if they like an athlete who consistently demonstrates that he feels he's "bigger" than the sport. Plushenko did the same thing in a much less demonstrative way, and I think it cost him. Play the game, or stay out of the game.

It's figure skating. Bias is always part of the judging in that sport. Still, it was a bummer that they appeared to not to want him to advance at all. I don't honestly believe he should have medaled, but I do think he should have been higher than sixth.

And Plushenko has been a real sore loser this week. Had I been inclined to think he was cheated (which I wasn't) I sure as heck wouldn't feel that way after the way he's acted out since the competition.
