Holy Shit!

*sob* Sayid! Sun!! Jin!!! *sob*

Hurley's tears gutted me.

And, MIB so has got to die now. And he has to die ugly. (Sawyer will have to die too, because whether he did it or not, he'll carry the karmic guilt. He's going to have to die before the end. And I think the beach scene was set up to show that Kate really does choose Jack (which is fine because I want a Sawyer/Juliet reunion in the alternate universe, damnit!)

Sideways!Verse, better have some happy endings!

*sniffle* Sayid! Sun! Jin! *sob*

The loosening hand clasp as the sub sank? *sob*

Then Hurley being heartbroken. *sobbbbbbb*

*sniffle* Sayid! Sun! Jin! *sob*

Did they get killed off? O_O

I am SO glad I stopped watching that show after season one.

Yes! *sob*

(Actually, I'm not completely heartbroken. They are still alive in the Alternative_Universe. I still anticipate Sun and Jin and their baby to have a happy ending in the alternative universe. They better!)

But it still doesn't prevent their deaths in the Island!Verse from breaking my heart. They were on the sub. The Man in Black put a bomb on it. They couldn't resurface in time to toss the bomb. Sayid ran with it to save the others. Blew him to kingdom come. Others managed to escape (though Kate has also been shot and Sawyer is unconscious with a head injury) But Sun was trapped, and Jin wouldn't leave without her. They remained together as the sub sank. Sun begged Jin to go, leave her. Jin vowed that he'd never leave her. The last shot of them was of their hands clasped together underwater as they died.

*sob*

Then Hurley started sobbing on the beach when he realized that they were gone.

They better get a happy ending in the Alternative_Universe!

Ah, at least there's an alternate reality for them, then! I wish those damn BtVS/AtS comics would make alternate reality stories, so that our favorite dead characters would get to live on and we could get to enjoy them again. (I've written to IDW several times with that suggestion, but they've never replied.)

They've had a Sideways!Verse all season where the characters are living parallel -- though slightly different-- lives, but they only seem to realize there are two lives when they have a near-death experience or when they meet their true love. (It can be either. For some it's meeting their true love. For others it's a near death experience. So far all sorts of folks that have died over the years have resurfaced in the Sideways-Verse... which is why I haven't given up hope for a Sawyer/Juliet happy ending either even though she died in the season premiere).

Although, come to think of it, Alt_Sun was made aware of the dual universes when she nearly died in the Sideways!Verse a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see whether she is now aware of her other self's death.

Frankly, I'm convinced (and have been for quite some time now) that they're all going to die.

Think about it. The plane is gone and the sub is gone. The only way off the island is death. They die... but they live in the alternative_universe.

So, I'm fully prepared to see almost everyone die before this is over. I'm expecting it.

I could almost live with that, as long as Jack gets (figuratively or literally) kicked in the nuts in the Alterverse.

(yeah, I'm a petty bitch :D)

And he's probably going to have to watch Kate die too.

The scene with their hands underwater was hauntingly beautiful, but Hurley really made me feel it. As a parent, I don't know if that kind of romantic death would hold up in real life, even if it was beautiful. Jin should have left, and Sun should have tried to convince him to do so. The AU must fix all this! Must!

OTOH, I love, love, love, that Sayid made that sacrifice. You can always come back from the dark side.

I agree about K/J as well, but as long as Sawyer meets Juliet for coffee, I'm good. It's really ending soon! *sobs*

Oddly enough, I started crying really hard when Kate started crying over their deaths, and I hate Kate. But Hurley! Poor Hurley. He took it hard.

Fortunately I loved that they were very careful to remind us that Jin and Sun are still alive in the Alterna-verse. That's some compensation.

Actually, they've now done what I thought would be almost impossible: they've made me like and respect Jack, who'd previously annoyed me non-stop almost since the beginning of this series. Matthew Fox is now sort of hitting it out of the park. This is somewhat analogous to my feelings toward Angel at the end of AtS - instead of feeling completely indifferent to the character, Boreanaz's performance (and the writing) made me really like him for a change.

::sob::: Jin and Sun! And poor Zombie!Sayid.

I know! I think it works because as flaky as Kate may be, I really have no doubt that she loved Sun, Sayid, etc. So I buy her grief.

But Hurley! Poor Hurley. He took it hard.
He was so heartbroken! That single tear turning into gut-wrenching sobs? *sob*

It sort of reminds me of my issues with "Chosen" were apparently death is greeting with mourning Starbucks and celebration of shoe-shopping.

I appreciate that the characters deaths were honored by allowing characters to mourn. We all needed Hurley's, Kate's, and Jack's tears. The fallen characters deserved no less than that because like Hurley, Kate, and Jack, we loved Sun, Jin, and Sayid too. (And Lepidus's timely snark will also be missed. *sniffle*)

Stupid East Coasters. Do you KNOW how hard it is to ignore the spoilers on your f-list while you're miserably waiting for Dancing With The Stars to be over so you can FINALLY watch this episode everyone's posting about?!?!!?

Anyway, finally saw it.

Still a bit in shock.

But hot damn, was that a good episode!

And I gotta say, for all that my mental synapses equate Jack = Angel = occasional douchebag, it felt good to admire Jack again, in both 'verses. He's trying in both - I'm personally loving the Big Brother to Claire thing in the Sideways!verse - but he's stepped past his dark, drunken despair and is leading again. Good for him.

I'll never forgive this show if it kills Sawyer.

Ever.

He had no reason whatsoever, after the nuke killed Juliet, to trust Jack. No one put in his place would have done so. No one.

I guess it helps that I still can't really like him (Jack). He's annoyed me for way too many years.

(I'm steadfastly ignoring the big elephant in the room Nuh uh. didn't happen. Lalalalalalalala!)

Did the Pilot, whose name escapes me completely, die as well? I don't remember seeing him on the beach.

This ep was filled almost entirely with Do Not Want!

Oh, I in no way blame Sawyer for his actions. He's been set up (within the story) to react in just this way. You're right. There was no way he could trust Jack in this. Jack's last big "trust me" plan, ended up with Juliet dying in his arms. No, he wasn't going to trust Jack (even if he had seen the Jack/Alpert 'the dynamite doesn't go off' thing. And he didn't see that). Of course he couldn't trust it. No rational person would choose to 'do nothing' and hope the bomb wouldn't go off. Storywise, Sawyer was set up to make precisely the choice that he made.

That said, I do think it was the "wrong choice" (albeit I think they're screwed no matter what).

And I've been convinced for a long time, but especially since Juliet's death, that Sawyer will die in the Island!Verse. And I'm good with that as long as he and Juliet get to go have their coffee!

The only way off that island is death IMHO. Before this is over, Lost is going to rack up a really high body count.

Miles told him that Juliet's dying declaration was that 'it worked.' Sawyer didn't believe Jack because Sawyer can't trust anybody - which is what is holding back his growth as a person.

I believe Kate or Hurley would have trusted Jack.

You have a choice between pulling wires on a bomb and *possibly* stopping it or simply having faith that a miracle will randomly occur on an island that has systematically been killing off members of your group and the bomb will not go off.

It's possible that Kate or Hurley would have trusted Jack. I still don't think it would have been the rational decision.

There's also no guarantee that Jack was right this time.

Date: 2010-05-07 04:24 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com
Sawyer was supposed to believe 'it worked'? Really? When there's no visible evidence as such?

Sawyer's plot this season was basically that Jack got Juliet killed (not really, but that's the way Sawyer, fairly logically sees it. No Jack isn't really responsble, just as Sawyer isn't really responsible here. They've both been played.)

And, yeah, Kate and Hurley would believe Jack... but then both of them always would have believed Jack. It wouldn't be new.

That said, I think Jack/Sawyer will come to terms in the end.

Heck, hee! I was half convinced Jack was going to give Sawyer mouth to mouth on the beach! :D

Sawyer's 'problem' in his character arc that he hasn't resolved yet is that he's a loner who can't trust anyone else. He couldn't even trust Juliet's dying declaration!

Yeah, I think Sawyer should have trusted Jack and believed what Miles relayed of Juliet's words -- and when we get to the day that he can do that, he'll get his happy ending in the ALT and his death on the Island. JMHO.

From: [identity profile] shipperx.livejournal.com
Sawyer's 'problem' in his character arc that he hasn't resolved yet is that he's a loner who can't trust anyone else.

Yes. It is. And I don't expect it to be resolved until they get around to the Sideways story he's involved in.

He couldn't even trust Juliet's dying declaration!
But what is he supposedly trusting? I mean, the whole idea was that it would reboot their timeline. All his senses, everything he knows... it's not rebooted. I don't see it popping into Sawyers' head that there's an alternative universe where they are all living out separate lives.

Nor do I see why Sawyer should be trusting Jack. We know that Jack is right, but Sawyer isn't working with that information. Sawyer wasn't around to see the dynamite not blow up, and for Sawyer the woman he loved died mere days ago due to Jack's last 'plan'. The problem with the Jack situation was that not only was Sawyer not working with all the information, but that it runs completely counter to what most people would feel. Sit there and do nothing and somehow, mysteriously it wouldn't blow up (remember, Sawyer never saw the Michael plot on the ship either) or take what is the most logical action and try to diffuse the bomb. Both logic and information were working against Sawyer choosing the "trust Jack" option. So, from Sawyers position, I don't know why he would trust Jack. From Sawyer's POV, Jack's big plot to leave the island three years earlier left him trapped on the island (at least until they got stuck in the past) and that time jumping killed Charlotte (Not Jack's fault). Jack's plan to set off the bomb didn't, in any perceptible way, pay off and there's no reason that Sawyer would think that there's a alternative universe where it did as opposed to Juliet being hazy where she died.

Now we know Jack is right. We know that Juliet was right. We know that... but I don't see where Sawyer would know that beforehand. All the writing was aimed at his arriving at exactly the choice he made... and that it work disastrously.

And I agree, he'll resolve that, end up trusting Jack in the end. He'll die and get a happier fate in the alt!Verse. But that's the end game. That wasn't where Sawyer was in this episode. And I'm not particularly surprised he was where he was in this episode. And... I think he'll get a 'redemptive death' in the near future.

True. I can find nothing remotely feminist in this.

That said, it is a heck of a lot of fun (if fun is breaking down in tears at the end of an episode...which in this case, for me, it kind of is).

Thank goodness for the Sideways!Verse.
