Ran across this quote in a comment thread that was discussing places other than LJ.

"...Nothing we saw in season 2 of BtVS ever made me think that Angelus would have been anything but an inventive, elegant and sophisticated lover - well, as far as Buffy was concerned in any case..."

Oh, who am I kidding?  I've got to comment.

The only folks I could see agreeing with that assessment are Franklin Mott and Drusilla.

Elsewhere, read spoilers and it  looks like the Whedonverse comics continue to furiously dig themselves into greater depths of fail.  I kind of respect them for putting this much effort into coming up with new and ever more spectacular ways to suck.  It cannot be easy.  It takes a work ethic, people!   Respect it!

::Pets Whedonverse Comics::  They're like Chinese Crested puppies.  So ugly they're almost cute.  Never change, Whedonverse.  I'd hate to think there could ever come a time when I could actually underestimate you.

ETA:   Spoiler (as I understand it which is basically having read a comment about it online):  Turns out in one of the W-guys writing the AtS comics (meaning I don't know the difference between them, so basically 'Not Lynch') has the plot twist that  Spike lost his soul and didn't notice.  A plot that has, of course, been done many times in fanfic.  Though given the overall stupidity of the comics, it's a safe bet that it will not be done well.  Or with any thought given to characterization of anyone...especially not Spike characterization.  Don't know and don't care about the details of it.

I don't think this bad comic is supposed to hook-up with the other bad comic. I think they're two isolated bubbles of batshittery. I think it's Lynch's upcoming comic that's supposed to hook up with the other bad comic and Lynch has said his won't align with W-scribed ones.

Honestly, they should simplify matters and just admit that these comics are ridiculous crap and if you like them, great, but not a lot of thought actually went into them so take them for what they're worth (not much).

(But should the scenario you're describing come about, I can only say that Joss will have limbo-ed beneath my already remarkably low opinion expectations of him which should make him limbo champion of the world!)

If it's not supposed to hook up with the Season Eight comics, then we might be spared this scenario. Someone on BuffyForums posted some of the dialogue, with Spike asking the screenwriters to give Angel some "poncey name like Dusk, or Sunset..."

I guess it just makes me nervous, considering how little explanation we've gotten for everything in both comics, how out-of-character everyone is, and Spike's tendency to get the crap end of the stick. To make Spike responsible for the whole Twilight debacle, and in such a manner...there are no words. (non-four-letter ones, anyway)

Given the DH/IDW snit fest and one of the W's online hissyfit against DH's douche, I guess I could see that happening.

Boy, they're all just a cesspool of suck, aren't they?

I don't like what it could be hinting at myself. Especially since it would explain how Spike knows all about it, even more than Giles and seems to know who's who right off.

It would figure if it happened.

It wouldn't help anything that's already spectacularly stupid in Season 8. It wouldn't make Twangel any less batshit crazy (actually it would make him moreso if he actually did all this shit based on a fake, hollywood penned 'prophecy' cooked up by a soulless Spike. How damned stupid is Angel supposed to be anyway? it wouldn't make Twangel any less selfish to screw the world. Nor would it ammeliorate any of Buffy's nuttiness along the way. It would basically just extend the suck even further in the already sucky comics... which is why I can't dismiss it. If they've got this much fail in them already, no reason not to spread it around equally.)

Certainly wouldn't explain the character fails, but that's all assuming that DH thinks they are character fails. Given the way some of the PTB talk, they actually seem to think it's in character. They might do something to explain Buffy's OOCness since there were slight hints in some issues that something was off with her, but I don't know about Angel. According to spoilers, he disappears pretty quickly to take care of stuff.

I don't even know anymore. I used to try to at least see what they might have been trying to say with all of it, but with the news that Joss can't even be bothered to write the thing by himself, I'm convinced they're just throwing shit out there and are just now trying to tie it all together and that's what all this Spike backstory is.

So, in summary, it's half-assed crap and the people in charge are flailing trying not to accept that oh-so-obvious truth.

Yup. :P Half-assed is maybe giving them a little too much credit. I don't think they plotted anything other than B/A screwing.

Which we were supposed to be blinded by. Just blinded in an "OMG! OTP!!11!!!" way instead of "My eyes! My eyes! My eyes have be sporked by goblin-y 'toon sex in spaaaaaace!" (which will never stop being funny!)

The silliness of it was really highlighted by the f@#k spellings used while the characters are supposed to be explicitly f$@#ing in the panels. It reminds of bad erotica with the authors talking about throbbing manhoods and weeping flowers because they can't bring themselves to say things outright.

Unless a wizard did it (by screwing with their personalities on soulless Spike's orders). Frankly, it would not surprise me now.
