Good grief, what does BBC America do to these episodes?  

I don't have the original episodes on my computer any more, but it constantly feels as though they've time condensed and cut out beginnings and endings of scenes to make room for more commercials.  Their cutting out the cursing also plays havoc on the effect of George's wolf-suppression tourettes.  Worst of all, I could swear that there are things that were cut out entirely. I remember the bathroom scene being powerful (and more brutal) and the way BBCA has sliced, bleeped, and pixelated it simply made the scene fast.  I also think they've taken out the talkie stuff (wish I still had the originals to compare.  I feel like it was missing a Mitchell/Ivan scene and a partial Lucy scene.  Are the episodes still on YouTube? ETA:  I checked YouTube, the episodes have been removed.)  The talkie stuff is important!  BBCA doesn't leave room for the episode to breathe.

*sigh*  I may stop recording the eps on DVR.  If I want to rewatch, I think I'm going to need the DVDs.

It's why I stopped recording. I d/l and saved them all-- I'm out of town, but could possibly hook you up (when I get home) if you need me to.

They cut up Doctor Who too. there are whole scenes (usually short ones, but still) missing.

With a station like BBCAmerica, which is importing shows with no commercials, I don't understand why they don't considering lengthening the time slot to say an hour and a haf if they can't fit it all into an hour

Same thing with Ashes to Ashes; when they aired it in cut form, it made no freakin' sense. ALL of its scenes were important.

Even Top Gear suffers (albeit less so) from the BBC America cuts.

This explains why I could not figure out the appeal of Ashes to Ashes, I was trying to watch it on BBC America. Never saw the other version.

So basically - every show that appears on BBC America has been drastically cut? So not fair.

Oh typical. What Beeb America is doing to 'Being Human', FX and the Sci Fi channel over here are doing to the repeats of Buffy and Angel. Pathetic. :0

Has anyone dled the eps from Zune? If so, are they cut as well? Ep. 1 of season two was 59 minutes. Is that shorter than the original. If so, I will save my money until the dvds come out.

Barb may still have the originals saved. I didn't even bother to watch 'em on BBCA because I know what they did to Dr. Who, which is far more "palatable" to American audiences... *grumble*

Hmmm, so the fact that I'm only watching it on BBC America and am unable to see it otherwise (unless I want to rent via netflix), means that I'll probably not see the version you did? Or the same version?

The bathroom scene didn't seem that bad to me. Nor did the cursing.
Curious to know what the original was like.

BBC America does have one too many commercials. Every ten minutes. It's annoying. And I can live without the Inside Look bits. Give me more show. They do the same thing with Doctor Who apparently.
Oh well, at least PBS is getting Sherlock, shame it didn't get Being Human and Doctor Who - we'd have gotten an unabridged, uncut version that way. PBS doesn't cut or censor anything.

The first bathroom scene with the tourette's wasn't as funny. And I wish I had the original version because I really thought that the second bathroom scene had a more appalling beating in it. Plus it was less funny watching him 'correct' the mirror when you couldn't read the mirror.

I think there was a scene of Mitchell having to talk Ivan into participating in the whole vampiric version of AA, but I don't have the original episode to compare. I also think there was more in the Lucy scene where she discusses her work and what she is or isn't willing to do. Mostly, though, they seemed to artificially truncate beginnings and ends of scenes so that the effect is that it feels rushed.

*sigh* I suppose it's the price we pay for it being on American TV. But I do enjoy watching it commercial free when downloading it.

And, yeah, I'm glad that PBS doesn't edit as well.

Are we watching two different versions of BBC America?

Because of all the scenes you described were in the version that I saw. I saw what was on the mirror. He corrected "This Teacher sock"
to This Teacher Socks..."Can't remember the rest. But I laughed when I saw it.

Also there's a rather lengthy bit with Mitchell convincing Ivan to join AA, and Ivan explaining what he wanted, and Mitchell explaining why he was needed.

Plus a scene with Lucy explaining what she needed to do and what her job was.

And he beat the guy to a pulp in the bathroom sequence I saw. (Granted it wasn't as bad as the beating scene in Casino Royale but few are.) ;-)
