BtVS Monthly Comic Whatever
Nov. 3rd, 2010 03:58 pmNow, admittedly, I haven't read it, just the summaries of it, but from the sounds of it, they didn't have time to make sense have significant character moments because they had to rush on to... boring us.
Ooh! Look, it's a 'Becoming' redux. Glad they bypassed character moments or coherent plot development for that. Let no dead horse be unbeaten.

Date: 2010-11-03 09:15 pm (UTC)Seems this month it's really just that...boring. Half the cast is possessed, so they don't have to come up with character motivation and the others are just bland.
Also it pretty much cements that the Spuffy panels in the last issue where exactly what they looked like. Fan service without any actual meaning for the characters.

Date: 2010-11-03 09:18 pm (UTC)ETA: Are the characters actually possessed? I mean, have they been so the whole time, or is this a new development? /vaguely curious

Date: 2010-11-03 09:30 pm (UTC)Its so sad that something that was once good has devolved so far up its own arse into something so poor and repetitve.

Date: 2010-11-03 10:10 pm (UTC)It's sad to see these characters reduced to nothing more than stereotypes. That's all they are is stereotypes. There is no characterization in it. That in and of itself wrecks the 'verse more than any glowy lion.

From what I've read about it, it sounds like I expected. Buffy will continue to alienate Spike, will be set opposite her friends and left behind. Only thing I'm not so sure of anymore is that it's her who breaks the Seed. That makes the most sense, so it probably won't happen.

Date: 2010-11-04 01:07 am (UTC)You think that After Life was nice and Smashed might mean something, and you get sucker punched with the stuff that follows topped off by Seeing Red.
You think Joss will make some effort to fix the mess they made, and they so screw up the soul quest that ten years after the fact and no matter what the writers say, you still get into fandom arguments that it was somehow a mistake and have nothing on screen that could actually shut them up.
TPTB spend years browbeating the Spike fandom about the importance of soul and how nothing good Spike does counts because he doesn't have one, only when he gets one, it doesn't much matter to the characters and is likened to wet towels.
You think Spike dying to save the world might earn him some cred, and when he shows up in AtS, it's out of a joke Lindsey's pulling on Angel and all the AtS characters don't know about it or think it was all Buffy's work... And Buffy knew and didn't bother to... care.
And here we are all these years later with Q&A's from Jeanty about how Spike can't be very good ('cause he's not Angel).
Yeah, Spike fandom = Charlie Brown with Lucy's football.
