Improving

Am much, much better today (though still a ways from 100%, but still a 100% better than yesterday which felt just shy of death...which sometimes looked almost preferable).

I don't know where I caught it.  Most likely culprits being either the chicken, the scallions, the tomato, or the grapes.   Or it could have been person to person as my mother had food poisoning a few weeks ago during a trip to Monroeville (where apparently a bunch of people at the picnic came down with it).   Who knows... other than it was awful.

It's weird because I was abnormally hungry Tuesday night (which after a bit of googling is also a symptom.  Who knew?  Seems like a particularly perverse sympton making you hungry so that you can eat more so that the disease has more material to torture you with. )

I was suspicious that all was not well when I went to bed.  By a little after midnight there was no question.  By 1am I'd pretty much set up residence in the rest room.  And the next 4-6 hours were hell.

Won't go into the symptoms which are TMI and gross, but the muscle aches were terrible as well.  In fact, my back still hurts.   What's with that?  It's a gastro-intestinal disease, so why is my back killing me?

Nausea faded by yesterday afternoon but I couldn't make it to the kitchen much less work. And  I had a 102 fever until early evening.  So I basically slept all of yesterday (when not in other forms of distress) and all of last night.

I do feel substantially better today (though I do feel a bit like I've been beaten).  I had enough energy to make it to work (there are times when it's good to have a sedintary job.  I have a deadline and since basically I just need to work on the computer, I can handle it).  I've even managed to drink an entire PowerAde drink for the electrolytes (which is more than I could keep down yesterday) and a few Ritz crackers (fingers crossed).   Yesterday was basically little more than sips of Sprite and a few ice chips.

So better, though still fragile. But, hey, at least I don't feel like death today.

Thanks.

I've proceeded to now eating soft, bland things.

Glad to hear you're feeling better!! And unfortunately, the odds are good it'll still be a bit before you're feeling 100%. :-(

The other place you could have caught it, though, was from ice water. When I had Norwalk Virus, I did some reading and ice water tends to be one of the biggest culprits (people don't always think to wash their hands before handling ice, so it gets contaminated that way).

That's actually quite possible. At the office we have an ice machine, so I could see how that might happen.

Your back might hurt from the strain of vomiting.

Sending along healing vibes, glad to hear you're starting to get better. At least you've got the long weekend to recover.

I actually think this may be the case. Strange that your body could react so violently to something that you end up making your chest sore for two days.

Glad you are on the mend, sounds like you had a terrible time of it yesterday. Hope you continue to get a lot better.

Thanks.

It was definitely not a good time, but I'm on the way up now.

Glad you're feeling better. Hope you are 100% very soon.

I usually try saltines and ginger ale, for first meals.

And, yeah, Ritz crackers came first.

It's always the chicken (she says from sad experience). Glad you're on the mend!

Chicken is very likely the culprit.

Evil chicken. :(

So glad you're on the mend, and so sorry you had to deal with that. I have no words of wisdom, except: BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. That's what the pediatricians recommend when coming off an upset like that. (Electrolytes are good, and Ritz crackers are toast, right?)

Applesauce and bananas have been introduced, as well as grits (which I've read can be substituted for rice). So, I'm improving.

Feel better! And never, EVER read any of the texts I had to read to get my LA county certified food handlers certificate. All I can say is: bleah.

Heh. It's bad enough simply noticing the scores posted on the walls. I never want to know what causes the scores.

Uh-oh. The back pain is an extremely alarming symptom; it might be a kidney or urinary tract infection.

You need to see a doctor as soon as possible!

Except it's upper back pain not lower. It's up between my shoulder blades. It's fading now. As bizarre as it seems, I think it actually had to do with the vomitting. Ugh.

Thanks. It's getting better and with the long weekend now, I'm hoping rest and taking it easy will do the rest.

Your back hurts because all your muscles tense, not just the ones in the affected areas.

This info comes to you courtesy of far too many years of g-i woes experience.

This may well be the case. Sucks. {hugs in empathy}
