It's been a hellaciously long week, but luckily everything has gone just great. Dad is looking good. He's off of all drains, IVs, and even supplemental oxygen. He's been walking down the hall since last night and doing really great (to the point where Mom is bitching at him for trying too much). He tires quickly, but what can you expect? We keep reminding him that he went through a hell of a lot this week. The doctor said that they'll continue assessing him but that he (the doctor) isn't on call this weekend but his partner is. His partner can discharge Dad this weekend if the partner thinks Dad's ready to go home. He said maybe Sunday (although this evening the nurse was betting that Dad might be released tomorrow). Tomorrow, Sunday, or Monday, doesn't matter as long as he continues to do well. Mom needs to make it to at least my sister's house though. As much as she may protest that she can sleep fine in the chair -- ha! I know she has to be sleep deprived to the point of being punchy, but she isn't going to leave Dad. I'm expecting her to really crash with exhaustion once they leave the hospital. It's a good thing that they cannot go home ("home" is hours away, so it's always been a case of Dad being released to stay at my sister's house (hey, staying in the home of two M.D.'s has got to be the wiser course) and perhaps later my home (as Mom and Dad usually feel more comfortable here). Still, it's such a relief that everything has gone this well. Now, my parents are even relieved that the doctors insisted on going through with the surgery as soon as possible as now that black cloud of anxiety and worry has been lifted.
Anyway, I know I haven't responded to all the wonderful comments (this week has been so busy and tired. But I do want to thank everyone for being so supportive and kind. THANKS!
