Hurricane Update
Jul. 10th, 2005 07:37 pmIt's just now getting really windy here. The remnants of the Hurricane at around 9pm.
My worst part of the day was DIGGING THE DAMN DITCH! That's right, digging a ditch along the side of the house to forstall the kind of flooding I had with Ivan because it cost me $500 to replace the carpet. Mom and I kept sayint we were digging a $500 ditch.
Since no one is at the beach house we don't know how it fared.
Mom and Dad haven't called Monroeville since it hit there. Although looking at the radar the eye (yet again!!) went right through it (Damn).
We're expecing flooding rains and some winds (it is windy here now. My poor dark red crepe myrtle is speading red confetti all over the grass) but, hopefully, we shouldn't be TOO bad unless there are tornadoes (or flooding. So maybe our $500 ditch isn't in vain) We have a good chance of losing power tonight though (combination of sodden ground and high wind usually equals toppled trees). But thus far all is well.
Mom and Dad are trying to call Monroeville to see how things are there.
ETA: My parents can't get any calls through. Seems that both land lines and cell towers are down in their hometown.
