I really need to break the TWOP addiction
Sep. 25th, 2007 01:02 pmI really need to break the TWOP addiction because I become so frustrated with the posters in that place. It's television, people! It's not rocket science or Shakespeare. Everything that happens isn't going to fit your every desire. Not every show is going to blow you away.
... and that's okay.
Oh, and to clarify, I'm currently complaining about the Heroes forum. Not everyone there, but some of them.
Some of them, I want to ask what show they thought they were watching. Heroes has never been the poster child for TV's greatest acting/writing. What it has been is relatively light escapist fare and, as far as I can see, they are continuing to deliver relatively light escapist fare. If that's not what you're looking for, that's fine. No problem. Certainly, there's a ton of room for criticism, and I can totally see not liking the show and not watching at all. But the carping just for carping sake is a tad annoying... and I realize that's what TWOP is there to do... which is why I said I should teach myself to avoid the place.
Anyway, my take on the season premiere is that they did a fairly good job. They opened up some new mysteries. Had a little fun. Some comedic stuff. Some "Oh, wonder what that will lead to?" stuff. Re-established characters and relationships (Love me some Claire/HRG. Not in that way). A couple of "hell yeah" moments. And at least one "God, I wish they hadn't done that [but I see a way it can be changed, so all is good in my world].
Yes, voice overs are cheesy, but, you know, I put up with the pretentious voice-overs on X-Files for nearly a decade, and I have a perverse affection for the things. So, while I can understand those introductions annoying the shit out of people, they don't annoy me at all.
For more spoilery reactions
As for "Chuck", my personal jury is still out. I wasn't bowled over by the premiere, but it had moments that could point to good potential. I'll see how it develops before making a decision on this one.
I DVRed "Journeyman" but didn't watch. I'm still running way behind on my
seasonal_spuffystory and desperately needed to write.
